Physician Billing Specialist

• POSITION PURPOSE
  • Performs billing and clerical functions necessary to bill and collect for physician services processed by the Physician’s Billing Department.
• MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • High School or Equivalent (GED)
• MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • 3 months – 1 year
• LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Previous experience at a physician office or hospital-billing department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedure and diagnosis coding.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language.
• PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from the Electronic Health System software while sitting at a desk for long periods of time performing keyboard functions.
  • Communicates and develops a working/problem solving relationship with co-workers, physician office staff, and insurance companies.
  • Utilizes telephone skills to allow for courteous and professional contact with patients, insurance companies, and physician offices.
  • Accurately enters pertinent information into the billing software.
  • Retrieves needed information from clinic sites to resolve problem accounts.
  • Accesses and retrieves information from the Hospital’s computer network systems.
  • Accesses and retrieves information from various insurance website’s to verify claim and eligibility status along with carrier submission guidelines.
  • Accurately appeals problem claims with appropriate insurance companies.
  • Researches and resolves overpayments.
