Job Description

  • POSITION PURPOSE
    • Submits properly executed claims on a timely basis to guarantors, insurance carriers and intermediaries; and performs rebilling and logging functions. Performs the clerical duties needed to bill and verify insurance benefits. Processes insurance claims, responds to patient inquiries and other various duties related to the Patient Account Office function.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • High School or Equivalent (GED)
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • Entry Level
  • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Formal education beyond high school in Business or Accounting or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Exposure to intermediate level business courses in Accounting, Bookkeeping and Statistics is preferred.
    • Two (2) years of Business Office experience in a health care environment in Billing, Customer Service, insurance follow-up or Collections.
    • Knowledge of telephone etiquette; typing; microfiche reader; computer; calculator; copy machine; Internet; and the use of a fax machine.
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Independently performs all aspects of insurance pre certification; billing; follow-up and appeals.
    • Positive communication skills, ability to successfully interact with all patients and staff including, proper display of telephone etiquette.
    • Continually demonstrates courteous, cooperative and service-oriented manner following hospital policies.
    • Performs clerical functions while maintaining current accounts with speed and accuracy; utilizing computer, microfiche reader, calculator, copier, fax machine and Internet knowledge.
    • Effectively keeps current on billing guidelines, memos, correspondence and reports.
