Job Description

    • Unit Secretary:  Acts as a receptionist and performs general clerical duties in the assigned nursing department. Prepares, updates and maintains patient charts. Does initial noting of orders. Assists with processing admissions, transfers and discharge papers for patients. Schedules treatments and tests. Maintains needed supplies and materials.
    • CNA: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (R.N.), the C.N.A. performs tasks for patients' Activities of Daily Living to promote comfort and safety, assists RN with the collection of patient data and performs selected procedures. Complies with established standards and procedures.
    • Unit Secretary: High School plus specialized training (6 mons-2 yrs)
    • CNA: High School or Equivalent (GED)
    • Entry Level

    • Unit Secretary:
      • Completion of Health Unit Coordinator program is preferred.
    • CNA:
      • Certification as a Nursing Assistant.
      • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
    • Unit Secretary:
      • Proficiency in use of personal computers.
      • Medical terminology knowledge.
    • Unit Secretary:
      • Serves as a resource for physicians, staff, patients and visitors regarding hospital activities and policies.
      • Prepares, updates and maintains patient charts.
      • Knowledge of how to locate, enter or correct orders or other information in Sunrise.
      • Ensures that the complete charts are sent to the appropriate areas for transfers and discharges.
      • Assists in the orientations and training of new staff and student clinical rotations as requested.
    • CNA:
      • Demonstrates competency with specific clinical skills and techniques that are listed in the department/unit skills list.
      • Performs tasks for patients’ Activities of Daily Living (ADL) to promote patient comfort and safety.
      • Assists the RN with collection of patient data such as but not limited to the following examples: Vital Signs, patient weights, Intake & Output, blood glucose/ urine multi-stix and Pulse Oximetry.
      • Promptly and courteously responds to any patient call light.
      • Consistently conducts regular rounds and observes patient activity.
      • Performs routine patient treatment/procedures.
      • Documents patient care tasks performed and communicates effectively to RN on delegated tasks, such as but not limited to: patient data collection, treatments and procedures, and ADL’s.
      • Promptly and clearly observes and communicates to the RN changes in the patient’s condition.
      • Patient rooms and department work areas are organized and maintained in a neat, clean and well-supplied manner.
      • Assists the patients by orienting them to the hospital routine in a sincere and helpful manner.
      • Recognizes the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and takes the appropriate actions in a timely manner. #cb
